12th April, 2017.

Dear Members,

I am delighted to confirm that this year's Spring Ball will be held on Saturday 13th May, 2017 and as it is 50 years since Leicester Police merged with Leicestershire and Rutland Constabulary to create the Force that we now know today covering Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland we decided to choose a venue with a difference and are pleased to be holding the event at The National Space Centre, Exploration Drive, Leicester.

The format of the evening will be slightly different but will still represents excellent value for money with a tour of the Space Centre, a 20 minute film in the Planetarium, a 3 course meal, auction/raffle and dancing to live music. The meal will be a set menu but special dietary needs can be catered for if you indicate this on the form. We are pleased to have secured Abandon Her to provide the entertainment for the evening. They are a 5 piece acoustic driven alternative band from Leicester (and the lead singer is a Leicester Police employee) playing original tunes and covers. They are an excellent band and for those who have never been before you will not be disappointed.

The evening will start at the slightly earlier time of 6.00pm. The Planetarium show will be from 6.30pm-7.00pm and dinner will be served at 7.15pm. The evening will draw to a close at 12 midnight. As always the dress code for the evening is black tie.

The charity for the evening will be the Mia Moo Foundation. One of Leicestershire's officers, Chris Phipps and his wife Mandy, launched this charity in their daughter's name. Mia (4) was first diagnosed with leukaemia when she was 21 months old but was given the all clear in December 2015 after two and a half years of treatment, including chemotherapy. Last summer, however, the disease returned. The Mia Moo Foundation's aim is to raise 40,000 to pay for a static caravan on the East Coast that could be used by families in similar circumstances to their own.

Following a recent change in the rules to the Mess nights these will now be made available to the whole Force with priority being given to existing members. If you would like to secure your place please return your booking form as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. The change in the rules means that you are now eligible to bring guests who were once not eligible to join with the Pay As You Go option. Places will be subject to availability and the cost will be based on the venue costs for each event. The cost for this Spring Ball for PAYG guests will be 42.00p.p. Alternatively if you have 10 or more guests in your party then you can book a table(s) for 37.00 p.p. Please note that in order to qualify for this discount all your guests must be on the same booking form.

The booking form can be downloaded here and should be fully completed, specifying menu choices, specific dietary requirements and stating your seating preference. Every effort will be made to seat you with your preferred guests, although this cannot be guaranteed. Please note that once places have been reserved, you will be liable for the cost per guest should you chose to cancel. Spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Booking forms should be returned to Jane Cooper, Assistant Charity Secretary no later than Friday 5th May 2017. Please return by email to Jane Cooper at jane.cooper@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk or post to Jane Cooper, EMOpSS T&B Co-ordinator, FIB, Admin I, Force Headquarters, St. Johns, Enderby, LEICESTER. LE19 2BX.

Please note bookings received after this date will not be accepted as final numbers need to be submitted to the Hotel.

I thank you for your continued support of Charity events and very much look forward to seeing you on the night.
