Firearms survey - do you want to be routinely armed?
All Federation members across the country are going to be asked if they would like to be routinely armed in a survey being launched on Monday.
The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) survey will be sent directly to officers via the member database.
"The question of arming more officers has been in the headlines a lot recently so the Federation has decided it's time to ask officers themselves for their views," says Tiff Lynch, chairman of Leicestershire Police Federation, "Members were last surveyed on this issue back in 2006 when the vast majority said they did not want to carry firearms. Of course, much has changed since then so it will be interesting to see if there has been a shift in that view."
The survey will take around 10 minutes to complete and will close on 1 September. Results are expected towards the end of September.
