This week I take the delegates from Leicestershire Police Federation to our national conference at Bournemouth.
Without doubt there has never been such an important national conference.
Many of you will have read the recommendations from the Normington review and you will know that Leicestershire Police Federation stands by all of the reforms suggested in this independent report. This week at conference delegates from across England and Wales will debate and vote on all 36 recommendations.
We hope that those recommendations will be implemented in full in accordance with the timescale outlined in the report.
At the end of last week, the Home Affairs Select Committee published its own report into the Federation following an inquiry led by the committee's chairman, the MP for Leicester East Keith Vaz.
As with the Normington review, we engaged fully with that process and supplied evidence to the committee.
While some might find it an uncomfortable read, I applaud that it again reinforces the recommendations of the Normington review. It is very clear to the membership here, and I, that there is no place in the Federation for those who wish to put self-interest above the needs of the officers we represent.
This week is our unique opportunity to make the Federation fit for the next 100 years and more.
